✦ Learning the Gospel

Lesson 3 of 28

The Life and Work of Jesus

Learn who Jesus is, what He taught, why He died, and what His resurrection means.

1

Jesus was born

Jesus is the Son of God who came into the world as a real human being. He was born in Bethlehem and grew up in Nazareth.

Where to read: Matthew 1–2 and Luke 1–2.

Luke 2:11

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”

2

Jesus taught and served

Jesus announced God’s kingdom, called people to repent and believe, taught with authority, healed the sick, welcomed outsiders, and served others.

Where to read: Matthew 5–7, Mark 1–10, and Luke 15.

Mark 1:15

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”

Mark 10:45

“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

3

Jesus is the way

Jesus did more than teach a way of life. He identified Himself as the way to the Father and called people to follow Him.

Where to read: John 10–14.

John 14:6

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

4

Jesus died and rose again

Jesus willingly died on the cross for our sins. He was buried and rose bodily from the dead on the third day. His resurrection confirms His victory over sin and death.

Where to read: Matthew 26–28, John 18–21, and 1 Corinthians 15.

1 Corinthians 15:3–4

“Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”
