✦ Learning the Gospel

Lesson 5 of 28

Salvation and New Life

Learn what it means to be saved by grace, forgiven, made new, and secure in Christ.

1

Saved by grace

Salvation is God’s gift. We receive it through faith in Jesus, not as a reward for our own goodness.

Where to read: Ephesians 2:1–10.

Ephesians 2:8–9

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

2

Forgiven and made new

Everyone who belongs to Christ is forgiven and begins a new life. Growth takes time, but our identity and direction are changed.

Where to read: 2 Corinthians 5 and 1 John 1.

2 Corinthians 5:17

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

1 John 1:9

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

3

No condemnation in Christ

Believers still need correction and growth, but they are not condemned before God because Jesus carried their judgment.

Where to read: Romans 8.

Romans 8:1

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.”

4

Held by Jesus

Our hope rests in Christ’s power and promise. He gives eternal life to His people and calls them to continue following Him.

Where to read: John 10:22–30.

John 10:28

“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”
