Lesson 6 of 28
Prayer and Knowing God
Learn how Jesus taught us to pray, bring our needs to God, listen through Scripture, and trust His will.
Prayer is talking with God
Prayer includes worship, confession, thanksgiving, and requests. We approach God as our Father through Jesus.
Where to read: Matthew 6:5–13.
Matthew 6:9–10“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”
Bring everything to God
God invites us to pray about every concern with thanksgiving. Prayer does not always change the situation immediately, but God gives peace and shapes our hearts.
Where to read: Philippians 4:4–9.
Philippians 4:6–7“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Pray regularly and according to God’s will
Prayer is not only for emergencies. Keep an open relationship with God, and let Scripture shape what you ask for.
Where to read: 1 Thessalonians 5 and 1 John 5.
1 Thessalonians 5:17“Pray without ceasing.”
1 John 5:14“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:”
Be still before God
Prayer also includes quiet trust. Slow down, remember who God is, read His Word, and allow its truth to guide your thoughts.
Where to read: Psalm 46.
Psalm 46:10“Be still, and know that I am God:”
