✦ Learning the Gospel

Lesson 7 of 28

Christian Living and Serving

Put faith into practice through love, spiritual fruit, fellowship, service, work, and care for others.

1

Love God and love people

Jesus summarized God’s commands with love for God and love for our neighbor. Christian living begins with love that becomes action.

Where to read: Matthew 22:34–40 and John 13.

Matthew 22:37–39

“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”

John 13:35

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”

2

Grow the fruit of the Spirit

The Holy Spirit develops Christlike character in believers. This fruit grows as we walk with God and obey Him.

Where to read: Galatians 5:16–26.

Galatians 5:22–23

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance:”

3

Stay connected to the church

Believers need one another for worship, teaching, encouragement, correction, and service. Church is a family and a body, not simply an event.

Where to read: Acts 2:42–47, 1 Corinthians 12, and Hebrews 10.

Hebrews 10:24–25

“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together... but exhorting one another:”

4

Serve and carry burdens

God gives every believer ways to serve. We honor Christ when we work sincerely, use our gifts, help those in need, and carry one another’s burdens.

Where to read: Galatians 6, Colossians 3, and 1 Peter 4.

Galatians 6:2

“Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”

Colossians 3:23

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”
