Lesson 19 of 28
The Cross and Resurrection
Go deeper into why Jesus’ death and bodily resurrection stand at the center of Christian faith.
Jesus took our place
At the cross, the sinless Jesus willingly bore the judgment sinners deserved.
Where to read: Isaiah 53.
Isaiah 53:5“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities... and with his stripes we are healed.”
The work was finished
Jesus’ sacrifice was sufficient. Forgiveness rests on His completed work, not on our ability to repay God.
Where to read: John 19:16–37.
John 19:30“When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished.”
Jesus rose bodily
The tomb was empty and Jesus appeared to many witnesses. His resurrection guarantees victory and future resurrection.
Where to read: 1 Corinthians 15:1–28.
1 Corinthians 15:20“But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.”
